Democracy Wins – Indian Government Capitulates to Septuagenarian Hazare after 3 days of Death Fast – 1.5 kgs Lost,Support of Millions Gained

Indian Democracy won as the Indian government was forced to capitulate before the massive moral authority of the eminent Septuagenarian Hazare. In 3 days of his fast unto death for the Jan Lokpal Bill,Anna had lost about 1.5 kgs but had gained the support of millions of Indians tired of the blatant corruption of politicians and bureaucrats. The seething anger against the Indian rulers who have looted and plundered the economy was apparent in the way the politicians aiming to drive mileage from the Hazare movement were driven away. The ruling Congress party had utterly failed in discrediting Anna by calling him a RSS stooge and worse.

Seeing the rapidly mounting support for the movement, the government has tried to cut losses sending ministers to hold talks on ending the fast.Thousands of schoolchildren, executives, college students has spontaneously joined the Anti-CorruptionĀ  Movement at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and millions more in different cities across India. It was the first real chance to protest against the endemic corruption and brazen arrogant behaviour of the ruling classes. Many politicians sensing the wind were trying to associate with Hazare.Shashi Tharoor the sauve face of modern India who had been discredited by his unethical conduct in IPL too tweeted that he supported Hazare ( don’t know what that means, use your position to gain money unethically in IPL and Commonwealth Scams and support anti-corruption).For now its a success for the Indian democracy but the ultimate success will be when a strong Lokpal Bill is passed.

Govt requests Anna Hazare to end his fast

The Government on Thursday requested veteran social activist and Gandhian to end his fast-unto-death which he has undertaken demanding a stricter anti-corruption law than what is being promised by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government. Union Telecommunications Minister Kapil Sibal made the request on behalf of the Union Government after meeting Hazare supporters – Swami Agnivesh and Arvind Kejriwal – in New Delhi.”We had a constructive dialogue. The broad parameters have generally been agreed upon. We are all together and against corruption. We are with the civil society. We had talks with Agnivesh. We will talk again at 1:30 pm. We are looking for a solution against corruption. We request Anna to end his fast,” said Kapil after meeting Swami Agnivesh and Kejriwal.Swami Agnivesh expressed satisfaction with the talks and said that Hazare would be conveyed about the Government’s stand on the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill.
