The temple was built way back around 1026–1027 by Bhima-I of the Chalukya dynasty. This marks a welcome step towards promoting clean and sustainable energy. More than 1,000 solar panels have been put on village homes. The villagers will receive electricity free of cost 24 hours a day. Installations include ground-mounted solar power plants and more than 1300 rooftop solar systems on residential as well as government buildings, all integrated with Battery Energy storage systems. This village was solarized in accordance with PM Modi’s target of rapid adoption of renewable energy in India. This solar village will also promote the sustainable implementation of a number of welfare projects in Gujarat. The PM also laid the cornerstone for more projects worth over Rs. 3,900 crores on the day he recognized Modhera as the country’s first solar-powered village. The temple is also adorned with heritage lighting as well as a 3-D projection facility to promote tourism in the heritage site. These will also run on solar energy.
The people of Modhera will not have to pay for electricity but they can earn from it by selling it to nearby towns and villages. This will make the village completely grid-independent and will also improve the lives of the villagers both economically as well as socially. It is a good move to solarize our villages. Not only will it improve the livelihood of villagers but also boost other social benefits including education, work, agriculture, etc. India has many villages which still aren’t connected to the grid.
