Solar Power Charging Stations and Electric Cars – A Complete Green Transport Solution

Electric and Hybrid Cars though claimed to be a green alternative to our normal gasoline powered cars are not truly green. The reason is that the electric power used to run these vehicles come from burning of mostly fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. This means that the fuel that is powering these cars is dirty in nature. Now some companies have introduced a truly green solution with the car charging stations to run using solar power. Tesla which is only surviving EV startup has introduced six solar powered charging stations in California.

Though practical problems remain like 30 minutes charging time and high costs, the fact remains that solar power charging stations enable car owners to become truly green and very near to zero carbon emissions. A lot of effort and time will go before the costs can be reduced and enough solar charging stations can be installed to make the electric cars ubiquitous, however this has been a good start. The solar charging stations have been put up in JV with Solar City which is one of the leading solar installers in the USA. The additional power generated will be fed into the power grid.
