Suntech was chosen once again by the Adani group in India to supply to its upcoming solar project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. Suntech and Adains had entered into an agreement to supply solar panels to its solar project in Gujarat in July 2015. Approximately a total of 36,470 modules worth 9.3 MW were supplied to the project expected to generate 13,000 MWh of electricity per year enough to power more than 30,000 homes. Suntech was acquired by Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd. in April 2014 that increased the company’s production capacity by 2.5 GW. Shunfeng is a manufacturer and seller of monocrystalline and multicrystalline solar wafers, cells and panels based in China. Suntech was ranked a Tier 1 PV module supplier in 2015.
Adani Power has become an important solar player in the Indian solar industry. It has recently tied up with SunEdison (though it was not a success) and Softbank of Japan to set up solar power plants in India. Adani has again signed a supply deal with Suntech for the supply of 200 MW of panels for a Tamil Nadu based project, expected to be operational in 2016. It is expected to be the biggest, individual solar project across the globe. Looks like Suntech will be the leading international supplier to Adanis, who have become a crucial name in the Indian Solar industry today.
