As we wrap up 2024 and gear up for 2025, the burning question on everyone’s mind is: where should we invest our hard-earned money? Let’s quickly recap our 2024 predictions and see how they panned out.
2024 Recap
Last year, we anticipated that defense, railways, and PSU stocks wouldn’t perform as well in 2024 due to their sharp rise in 2023. This prediction proved accurate, with some of these stocks experiencing a decline of up to 50%. We also projected that the banking, pharma, and auto sectors would fare better. Pharma has been a standout performer, with stocks like Neuland Labs turning into multi-baggers. Autos have seen mixed results, with some segments like two-wheelers doing well and others like select four-wheelers lagging. Banking, particularly private banks, has been a laggard.
Silver, our top pick last year, has surged by double digits, and gold has also performed well, reaching all-time highs. Debt and fixed income have done decently despite the RBI not cutting interest rates.
2025 Outlook

Overall Market Outlook
The Indian equity market, particularly midcap and small-cap, is at very high valuation levels, and investors should be cautious of potential sharp corrections. The Nifty, while at all-time highs, is not as overvalued as the small and midcap spaces.
2025 is shaping up to be a challenging year for investors, with many asset classes trading at high valuations. Fixed income appears to be a safe haven, offering fair returns of 8-9% and potentially outperforming equities if interest rates decline. While precious metals like gold and silver offer some promise, their high valuations could limit upside potential. Equities, especially tech stocks, are at all-time highs, and investors should be cautious of potential corrections. Given the high returns seen in recent years, it’s wise to temper expectations for future returns.
