Solar Energy in India at the Federal Level is facing massive problems but the state level initiatives are pushing ahead.Gujarat has been at the forefront of promoting Solar Energy recently setting aside a 3000 acre site for 500 MW of Solar Power Generation.First Solar, the Cd-Te Leader and Producer of the largest number of Panels in 2009, has got an order from Acme Telepower for 15 MW Plant to be constructed in March 2011.Note First Solar is the also the lowest cost producer of solar panels in the world currently and looks to be so in the foreseen future as well.First Solar is expanding capacity by almost 50% in 2011 after a slow 2010 and looks upon India as one of its most important markets.
First Solar can also look to leverage the JNNSM Solar Projects as thin film does not fall under the purview of the domestic content requirements. At the 5 MW level,First Solar thin film modules are more than competitive with c-Si modules and already have a long established track record and history.First Solar should be the ideal choice for JNNSM project winners particulary since they have bid so low.First Solar could also pose some trouble to local solar panel producers who are hoping to cash on the local content requirements.
First Solar has signed a module supply agreement with ACME Tele Power (ATPL) in which it will provide its thin-film modules for ATPL’s 15MW (DC) solar power plant in Gujarat, India. The modules are scheduled to be delivered in March 2011.
