More EV charging stations, financial incentives, lower costs, manufacturing hubs in the state of Haryana

Haryana goes all-gung-ho on developing a robust electric vehicle infrastructure in the state. The draft EV Policy proposes to install charging stations at commercial complexes, housing societies, and residential townships with a built-up area of 5,000 square meters. Haryana’s cities like Gurugram and Faridabad are fast developing given the rapid real estate development and booming MNC sector. The main population in these cities comprises working-class people who are always looking to upgrade their lifestyles. They are aware of the new changes and are also trying to lead a healthy life amidst the rising air pollution levels in the cities. Electric cars are the ready solution in these cities and hence the government is trying to push for faster adoption. The new EV policy will offer various financial incentives to EV manufacturers and aims at promoting the manufacturing of electric vehicles and their components in the state. It further reduces the upfront cost of electric vehicles and also grants incentives to buyers of hybrid EVs.

Highlights of Haryana EV policy include:

i) Making Haryana a global hub for electric mobility development and EV manufacturing

ii) Allocating 100 to 200 acres of land for developing EV parks

iii) Parks to be equipped with plug-and-play internal infrastructure

iv) Facilitating the availability of land at concessional rates

v) New constructions to have EV chargers in 20% of the parking space, and developments with more than 100 parking spaces to reserve 5% for EV chargers

The Haryana EV state policy is focusing on making Haryana an EV manufacturing hub, ensuring skill development in this area, encouraging faster adoption of green mobility, providing a robust EV charging infrastructure, and encouraging R&D in this fast-evolving EV technology. It is important for more states to have such progressive policies for better air quality and reducing the oil import bill in our country.
