I have analysed the installation number for different states in the last one year. As can be seen from the table below Rajasthan and Gujarat hold the top positions in the country, with solar installations crossing the 1 GW mark. Eight states namely MP, TN, Maharashtra, AP, Telangana, Punjab, UP and Karnataka have installations ranging in between 100MW to 700 MW. It is laudable to mention Telangana which showed a remarkable increase in the six months from May 2015 to January 2016, by installing more than 275 MW that is 445% increase. Tamil Nadu too almost doubled capacity from 148 MW to 419 MW in these six months.

However more than 15 states and union territories are still well below the 100 MW mark in terms of solar installations. Chhattisgarh showed remarkable performance, increasing the installation numbers by more than 600% from May 2015 to January 2016. Kerala too increased its presence by increasing installations to more than 12 MW, from just 0.025 MW in these six months.

States like Jharkhand, Haryana, West Bengal, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Lakshwadeep, Puducherry did not install a single MW during these months. During the same time India had plans to award 15 GW of solar projects through reverse bidding process. Out of this NTPC and states already tendered for 2.6 GW and 3 GW respectively. Total installed capacity comes to more than 5 GW in India currently. Note the country is aiming to install 100 GW by 2022. The solar project cost are also expected to come down to INR 4.5 cr/ MW from INR 6 cr/ MW currently. Though the awareness has increased and we hear about new tenders on the state level it remains to be seen how much of these plans will be concrete. The biggest concern for solar power in India is the poor health of the state-owned distribution utilities.

Yes you are right because in Rajasthan and Gujrat sunlight intensity is very high as comparison to any other states of India and solar panel also helps to reduce pollution and reduce our electricity bill also.
