Verizon Communications plans to invest $100 million in solar energy and fuel cells in USA. Verizon plans to step into green energy to become more environmentally sustainable. The company targets to finish the project by the next year in 19 several places in US states. The big communication company has also realized the importance of going “Green” and plans to cut down carbon emission by using natural gas to power its fuel cells. The company will surely save big bucks in this mission in addition to cutting its carbon footprint by more than 5,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. ClearEdge Power is appointed by Verizon to install fuel cells at the US sites.
This is not new in the big corporate world, where many big companies have resorted to Green and clean ways to reduce their cost and cut carbon footprint, to remain environmentally sustainable. The technology giant Google’s had also made Investment in Wind Energy.

WASHINGTON: Verizon said on Tuesday it plans to invest $100 million in solar power and fuel cells at 19 facilities in seven US states to cut its carbon footprint and make its operations more resilient to storms and other disasters.
“I have a CFO and a CEO who are telling me quite often, ‘We are not going green for green’s sake.’ So we absolutely have a positive return on investment based on a 10-year net present value,” Gowen said in a telephone interview.
Like many other US companies, Verizon aims to be more environmentally sustainable and beef up its green credentials, but another key reason for the energy shift was to bolster reliability.
