The Congress Party and its leaders can’t stop being caught in corruption scams and instead of trying to correct them, they slander and character assassinate civil rights activists who try to bring about an anti-corruption bill in the country. The Adarsh Housing Scandal in which the Congress Chief Minister in Maharashtra was involved had to resign though no jail time for him or for his associates. The Scam which also involved top bureaucrats,Corrupt Indian Military Generals and other sleazy officials has died a natural media death as fresh scams take their place. Not that the Opposition party BJP is any better with its Karnataka Chief Minister failing to resign despite being accused of a number of scams.Note the Karnataka Ministry of the BJP has robber mining barons as top ministers who have made billions of dollar through illegal mining of iron ore.
The Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has been accused of awarding contracts of hundreds of crores to a little company in which his son works. After the Congress party came to power,Om Metals in which his son Vaibhav works has been given a hydro dam and a highway contract. The company and CM as usual refuse the allegations of corruption though a clear case of conflict of interest if not outright corruption exists. The CM as is the wont of politicians in India blames a “conspiracy by the opposition” and as usual expect the corruption to exist in the media headline for a week and dissipate.
Last week, documents accessed by NDTV suggested that in the Congress government in Rajasthan, there was a clear conflict of interest in multi-crore rupee contracts being awarded to companies which employed Chief Minister’s son.
Om Metals and Triton Hotels use Mr Gehlot’s son, Vaibhav, as a legal consultant. Vaibhav joined Om Metals in 2006 – his salary was Rs. 10,000 a month. Two years later, the Congress government headed by Ashok Gehlot came to power. In May 2010, the Rajasthan government awarded a Rs. 457-crore contract to Om Metals – whose main business was hydro-power projects – to construct a dam across the River Kalisindh near Kota. Two months later , Om Metals was granted another Rs. 250 crore contract to build a two-lane 200-km stretch of the Rajasthan State Highway between Jaipur and Bhilwarah.
Om Metals denies there is a conflict of interest. “If Vaibhav Ghelot is a lawyer, he has to pursue his profession. He has been with us since 2006. It is not right to say that just because his father has become the Chief Minister, he has to leave his profession,” Vikas Kothari, Business Development Director with Om Metals, told NDTV
